Richard Hirsch supports vocational training centre for youth at risk at Miftan Alon school
Miftan Alon High School caters to students who have left, been expelled or given up on the formal education system. To foster students’ vocational skills and personal development, Miftan Alon launched a social enterprise: a private function center called The Lion & The Turkey run by students as part of a special vocational skills program – thanks to the support of Richard Hirsch.
The Lion & The Turkey is teaches vocational skills to students who struggle academically. In addition to equipping them to join the workforce, vocational training empowers them by cultivating a sense of confidence, responsibility, decision-making and other life skills.
Twelve students were selected for the program, two of whom have already succeeded in securing hospitality jobs outside the center as well.
Since operations began in January 2019, The Lion & The Chicken has run eight events: four corporate events (for example, for Dell EMC) and four private cooking workshops. Event planning is also underway for several major companies, including Bank Hapoalim, Coca-Cola, BDO, and EY.
