Today, there are slightly over 30,000 Holocaust survivors residing within the city limits of Tel Aviv-Yafo. Many lost their entire families in the war and now continue to combat loneliness as they lose their support systems, spouses and peer group, to old age. The Café Europa program was initiated to provide needed emotional, social, and therapeutic services to this unique aging population. Café Europa offers survivors a comfortable and safe place to meet one another, exchange stories, receive therapy, and take part in social activities. Continued expansion of the Café Europa program into new geographical areas with large concentrations of senior citizens is a necessity to ensure that all individuals who seek this program’s unique benefits are able to participate and gain from its services.
