A Place in the Heart
Community | Home Environment
A Place in the Heart is an intensive after-school, home environment center that feeds, cares for and treats high-risk children who have been diagnosed with severe behavioral disorders. Most of the children who are admitted into the Center are 6-9 year olds who have failed to respond to traditional therapeutic frameworks available within the community. Some live at home with their families; others are wards of the courts. At the Center, staff members work with families, schools and professionals in order to develop an intervention program which is tailor-made for each child. This may include treatment at a mental health clinic, special educational classes and one-on-one mentoring and tutoring. The Center is open from 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. five days a week.
