Cafe Europa
Community | The Leslie & Susan Gonda Senior Citizens Center
Café Europa is a support group for Holocaust survivors living in Tel Aviv. It meets weekly at three different locations where participants can enjoy snacks and light entertainment.
Mostly, Café Europa offers survivors a comfortable place to meet one another, exchange stories and take part in social activities. Such a social setting makes a difference in survivors’ lives who are today retired, living alone with a lot of free time on their hands. One of the regular attendees said, “For us it is like a medicine. We wait all week for Café Europa.”
An expansion of the program is necessary to ensure that all individuals who seek benefits of Café Europa are able to participate, and new branches of the program should be introduced to areas with large concentrations of senior citizens. Additional funds are needed for short field trips, weekend excursions to theaters and concerts, evenings of dance, and other similar activities.
