Enrichment Corners In High Needs Pre-Kindergartens
The Municipal Education Department provides each prekindergarten classroom with basic furniture, books, games and toys. However; teachers, parents, and volunteers often provide the extras and additions needed within the classroom to create the warm learning environment to develop academic and social skills. In the economically deprived areas, children come from families where priorities focus on meeting the basic needs of food, shelter and clothing. Therefore, the addition of new games, books and computers are not accessible.
The Enrichment Corners provide the children with additional learning tools that are otherwise not available to them. The area includes: a computer station with special learning software geared towards proper age development; a TV and DVD or video player with academic videos, books, art supplies, special lighting and additional classroom furniture. These enrichment corners assist teachers to enhance learning and prepare our children for future academic success.
