Libraries & Resource Centers

The Tel Aviv Foundation and the Municipality of Tel Aviv-Jaffa are transforming old and outdated libraries to be modern, new libraries and resource centers at various elementary, middle and high schools throughout Tel Aviv.

These new centers are being built in neighborhoods that are comprised of low income families, with the majority of parents not holding a high school diploma and many having a variety of social and welfare problems. These families receive assistance from various social service agencies.

Since the majority of these families have no "home library" or computers connected to the internet (due to high costs and low prioritization), there are many talented students

with tremendous potential who are not exposed to the proper educational nurturing that would provide them with a chance for a successful life.

Making the school library into the school's "resource center" is meant to supply the teachers and students with knowledge and diverse teaching resources. It will make it possible to delve deeper into subjects, and provide enrichment and variety in teaching methods.

The library will also serve as a computerized information center for students, teachers and parents, which will allow them to connect to databases such as the internet, obtain educational CDs and to retrieve information that will help them in their studies and activities. The school library will also be open to parents and will hold activities for families to promote educational advancement.
