Renovation & Rebuilding of Kindergartens

Tel Aviv-Jaffa Mayor Ron Huldai’s vision is to provide every child in Tel Aviv-Jaffa with the best education possible. Compulsory education in Israel starts at the age of five. Before reaching that age, children attend either private systems or the municipal pre-K kindergarten system, both of which are tuition-based.

Due to the current financial strain, many parents find it difficult to pay for their children’s education, and seek the municipality’s assistance. In addition, many parents now request that a hot meal to be provided for their children during the day.

Traditionally, most Israeli children spend their afternoons outdoors – a near impossibility now due to the security situation and concerns for their safety. Pre-K kindergartens double as after-school centers, providing enrichment activities and now, also a safe environment for the children. Over the past five years, more than 3,000 children ages 3-5 have enrolled in the municipal pre-K education system. They were accepted unconditionally, and are housed in old buildings, many of which are in sub-standard condition.
