Home Environment Centers

The Tel Aviv-Jaffa Municipality has developed the home environment center system/after school center for children at risk.

Home environment centers in Tel Aviv-Jaffa are attended by over 5,200 children ages 3-6 years old.On the pre-school level, the home environment centers are located in municipality kindergartens where there are usually two classes, each with 25-35 children, who attend the centers daily until 1:00 p.m. At 1:30 p.m. at least one of the classes converts into a home environment center for the participating children.

The primary objective of after-school centers is to create a place where both the children and their parents feel and see that the educational system is supportive and beneficial. This supportive environment will provide a foundation for the future and can help prevent children from dropping out of the educational system early.

The Centers will provide them with the skills necessary to become fulfilled and successful early in their educational, family, social and cultural environments. Additionally, the home environment centers provide a hot, nutritious meal to the children. For many of these children this will be the only hot meal they will have in a day.
