The “Enrichment Corners” for nursery (pre-k) schools,
provides the children with an area for learning that is not
normally included in a school. The "Corner" includes: a computer
with special learning software geared to this age; a TV and DVD or
video player with learning videos/discs geared to this age; books; art
supplies; appropriate furniture, lighting etc.
A pre-school is often
accompanied by an after-school program (home environment). So the
classrooms, with the enrichment centers, are used for a full day. An
enrichment corner can accommodate 35 children.

Normally, the Municipal Education Department provides
these pre-schools with only the basics: furniture, books, games and
toys.
In some of the most deprived areas, where children come
from families in crisis: one parent families, new immigrants, unemployed
parents etc., the family priorities are for the basic needs: food and
clothes. Therefore, new games, books or computers are not accessible at
home. Enrichment Corners provide these important educational
resources to these children. |
