Established in 1994, the Academic College of Tel
Aviv-Yaffo had already
earned its reputation as a leading institution of higher learning, with
a resolute
commitment to academic standards, a unique approach to student
development,
and an innovative approach to teaching.
Tel Aviv University, the Israel
Council of Higher Education, and the Municipality of
Tel Aviv-Yaffo jointly founded the College as a public institute of
higher education. |

The College operated since its
establishment in several old school buildings, dispersed throughout
downtown Tel Aviv.
These conditions imposed constraints on the
development of the College and on its growth. It was resolved that the
College will relocate to a new campus in Yaffo. Underlying this plan
were, the physical needs of a modern academic
institution. Yet, perhaps
more importantly, it was believed that the move the Yaffo would allow
the College to fulfill
social and communal roles amongst the
disadvantaged neighborhoods of Jaffa.
The first building of the Yaffo
campus, housing the Fomento School of Behavioral Science, was inaugurated in
February 2004
and roughly one-third of the College students, faculty and
administration moved their activities to Yaffo. The second building,
designed for the School of Computer Science, is currently under
construction. It is due to be completed in December of
2007. The
third building, the School of Management and Economics is in detail
design. Its construction will allow the
completion of the move of the
College to its new campus
Today, the Academic College of Tel
Aviv-Yaffo stands at the forefront of colleges established in Israel
within the last two
decades, alongside the older research universities,
granting accessibility to higher education to deserving youngsters who
could not be accommodated at the older, overcrowded universities. |
