Dr. Meggie Navon is the U.S. Operations Director for the Tel Aviv Foundation since 2002. Her
responsibilities include all matters related to the activities, development and operations of
the Tel Aviv Foundation in the U.S.
Meggie was born in Israel to a Holocaust survivor
father and to an Irgun activist ("Etzel") mother. She retired as Head of
the Neuro-Developmental Department in an Early Childhood Treatment Clinic and a
Professor at the Tel Aviv University School of Medicine.
During the early eighties, Mrs. Navon was one of the
founders of - The Israeli Forum –(The Israeli Young Leadership) whose main
objective was "to establish a direct line of communications between Israelis and
Jews in the Diaspora". In 1985, Mrs. Navon founded a new project - which later
became the largest project in the country of social absorption - known by the
name "REUT", meaning Friendship.
The REUT project was based on the adoption of a New
Olim family by an Israeli family, soldiers without any family in Israel and
youth from Russia and Yugoslavia which are spending weekends and holidays at
Israeli families' homes. The project to-date has evolved more than 35,000
families all over Israel.
Meggie spent two years in the Jewish Community
Federation of Cleveland, Ohio, serving as the Community Shlicha, an experience
which thoroughly enhanced her knowledge, understanding and feeling towards the
Jewish everyday life in the Gola (not to undermine the acquaintance with the
fine weather conditions there...).
In 2002, Ron Huldai the Mayor of Tel Aviv –Jaffa
recruited Meggie to help in fulfilling his vision to improve the quality of life
for the residents of Tel Aviv and all the daily commuters to the city.
Meggie lives in Ra'anana, is married to Yoav, is a mother
of three and has one grandson.
